Before you appoint a marine surveyor
What information is needed for a Chile marine survey quote?
Provide the region, exact harbour, marina, anchorage or yard, vessel particulars, construction, purpose and date. Include haul-out, sea trial, domestic travel and any insurer, lender, registration or DIRECTEMAR requirement.
Can one surveyor cover central Chile and Patagonia?
Potentially, but these are separate long-distance assignments. Flights, transfers, accommodation, weather, port access and the surveyor’s availability must be agreed for the actual location.
Is a private condition survey the same as a Chilean navigability inspection?
No. DIRECTEMAR regulates recreational-vessel registration, safety and the Certificate of Navigability through the Maritime Authority. A buyer’s or insurer’s report does not automatically replace that process.
Can a surveyor attend a yacht in the southern fjords?
Potentially, subject to safe transport, weather and access. The yacht may need to move to Puerto Montt, Punta Arenas or another facility for haul-out or specialist work.
Are travel, haul-out and sea trial included?
Only when stated in writing. Flights, accommodation, road or boat transfers, port fees, lift, wash, relaunch, skipper, fuel and specialist testing can be separate.
Who appoints the marine surveyor?
The client appoints the independent surveyor and agrees scope, fee, timing, limitations and terms directly. Chile Marine Survey provides information and introductions only.
